James Oliver Senior and Adam Dole

James is a designer at Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit worldwide leader in medical care, research and education. Earlier in his career he designed at startups in service to large enterprises such as Air Canada, IBM, Exxon, 3M and Dow. After completing graduate work at Parsons the New School for Design, he moved into the social sector – lecturing on design at CUNY, Parsons and UMN, and planning websites for nonprofits and healthcare institutions. James is currently working on a new user experience for, a leading online healthcare service with over 1.2 billion pageviews per year. He lives with Caroline Z. Krzakowski in Brooklyn, NY.

Adam Dole works as a Business Planning Manager for Mayo Clinic. As a member of a new ventures team, Adam’s role resembles that of an “Entrepreneur In Residence” by identifying and incubating opportunities for future products, services and businesses for Mayo Clinic. His current focus area includes creating new services that extend Mayo Clinic’s reach and impact beyond the hospital walls, with the intention of impacting the lives of broad consumer audience. Adam is passionate about designing products and services that empower people to take more ownership over their own health and wellness.

Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, Adam worked as a strategist for Method Inc., the design and innovation consultancy and Jump Associates, a growth strategy firm. Prior to that, he began his career as a research associate in the human factors department at NASA. Adam received a BS in Communications from Syracuse University and an MBA in Design Strategy from the newly founded ‘design+business’ program at California College of the Arts. Adam currently lives in Los Gatos, CA with his wife and enjoys surfing and his most recent hobby of running marathons in his free time.
